Bing Interface for Social Connection

All new Bing interface, ideal for social connection and searching is now online for all users. Bing made an announcement today stating that anyone can easily access the new interface from the official website www.bing.com/new. The visitors will see a message on top of the Bing home page inviting to try “the finest search, with people from any social networks.”

I tried to search Restaurants in Seattle and was amazed to find that without clicking the “check it out” option, it showed three column displays for “Seattle Restaurants.” When Bing made the announcement regarding latest interface last week, it put snapshots of the search results showing additional information regarding every listing in the middle section. A spokesperson from Bing said that one more week will take for this innovative feature to go live on Bing.com.

If you check the original announcement made by Bing last week, you will find that the latest Bing interface has added a variety of social elements to the search results.  It includes all new Social Sidebar which shows information about friends and expert from Twitter and Facebook related search query. The interface is available on Bing mobile also m.bing.com. The layout is specifically optimized for touch-based input and small screens.

Google Knowledge Graph-new update

Google launched its much awaited “Knowledge Graph” today. Apart from traditional search results this new technology from Google shows popular and well known facts about people, places & things.  The new technology has given Google a new way of searching. Earlier the searches were based on pages that matched the query term. The new technology searches on the basis of “entities” or “concepts” the keyword describes.

Knowledge Graph - “Graph” as we all know is an abstract representation that shows set of objects connected by links. Google used “link graph” concept to model how pages in the search, link to each other, with the aim of determining, what are popular and relevant searches for that particular keyword. Facebook used a “social graph” in order to understand how people are related. “Knowledge Graph” is Google expression, which shows how Google is building associations between people, place, & things and it shows information about these entities. Google states for Knowledge Graph it has compiled more than 3.5 billion facts. It includes information and relations between 500 million entities. The entities are generally persons, places & things.

Let us have a look at some of the prominent categories of objects Google has information and facts about.
  • Actors, Movies, Producers, Directors.
  • Cities & Countries.
  • Art Works and Museums.
  • Islands, Lakes & Lighthouses.
  • Music Albums, Artist & Music Groups.
  • Planets, Astronauts, Space & Spacecraft.
  • Sports Teams.
These are some of the categories. The most important thing is relationships between the facts. The relationships help Knowledge Graph to link which actors did a particular movie or which player or team has won a particular tournament. Knowledge Graph is going to bring a revolution in the way of searching.

What is Internet Marketing

Internet marketing, also referred to as i-marketing, web-marketing, online-marketing, Search Engine Marketing (SEM) or e-Marketing, is the marketing of products or services over the Internet.

The Internet has brought media to a global audience. The interactive nature of Internet marketing in terms of providing instant response and eliciting responses, is a unique quality of the medium. Internet marketing is sometimes considered to have a broader scope because it not only refers to the Internet, e-mail, and wireless media, but it includes management of digital customer data and electronic customer relationship management (ECRM) systems.

Internet marketing ties together creative and technical aspects of the Internet, including: design, development, advertising, and sales.

Internet marketing also refers to the placement of media along many different stages of the customer engagement cycle through search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO), banner ads on specific websites, e-mail marketing, and Web 2.0 strategies. In 2008 The New York Times, working with comScore, published an initial estimate to quantify the user data collected by large Internet-based companies. Counting four types of interactions with company websites in addition to the hits from advertisements served from advertising networks, the authors found the potential for collecting data upward of 2,500 times on average per user per month

Business models

Internet marketing is associated with several business models:

  • e-commerce — this is where goods are sold directly to consumers (B2C) or businesses B2B)
  • Publishing — this is the sale of advertising
  • lead-based websites — this is an organization that generates value by acquiring sales leads from its website
  • affiliate marketing — this is the process in which a product or service developed by one person is sold by other active sellers for a share of profits. The owner of the product normally provide some marketing material (sales letter, affiliate link, tracking facility).
  • local internet marketing - this is the process of a locally based company traditionally selling belly to belly and utilizing the Internet to find and nurture relationships, later to take those relationships offline.
  • blackhat marketing - this is a form of internet marketing which employs deceptive, abusive, or less than truthful methods to drive web traffic to a website or affiliate marketing offer. This method sometimes includes spam, cloaking within search engine result pages, or routing users to pages they didn't initially request.

There are many other business models based on the specific needs of each person or the business that launches an Internet marketing campaign.
